Some of the information may be outdated (for example, some images may be missing, and some links may not work anymore).<\/aside>\n<p>\n  Your visitors may stumble into a<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/google.com\/not-very+found\" class=\"external-link\"><code>404<\/code> &#8220;Not found&#8221;<\/a><br \/>\n  page on your website for a variety of reasons:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A mistyped URL, or a copy-and-paste mistake<\/li>\n<li>Broken or truncated links on web pages or in an email message<\/li>\n<li>Moved or deleted content<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n  Confronted by a <code>404<\/code> page, they may then attempt to manually correct the URL, click<br \/>\n  the back  button, or even navigate away from your site. As hinted in an<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/farewell-to-soft-404s\/\">earlier post<\/a><br \/>\n  for<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/its-404-week-at-webmaster-central\/\">&#8220;<code>404<\/code> week at Webmaster Central&#8221;<\/a>,<br \/>\n  there are various ways to help your visitors get out of the dead-end situation. In our quest to<br \/>\n  make <code>404<\/code> pages more useful, we&#8217;ve just added a section in<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/search.google.com\/search-console\" class=\"external-link\">Webmaster Tools<\/a><br \/>\n  called &#8220;Enhance <code>404<\/code> pages&#8221;. If you&#8217;ve created a<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/how-http-status-codes-affect-googles-crawlers\/#pagegone\">custom <code>404<\/code> page<\/a><br \/>\n  this allows you to embed a widget in your <code>404<\/code> page that helps your visitors find what<br \/>\n  they&#8217;re looking for by providing suggestions based on the incorrect URL.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"custom 404 page widget generator in webmaster tools\" src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-3f7bd2f3ddf5.png\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>\n  Example: Jamie receives the link <code>www.example.com\/activities\/adventurecruise.html<\/code><br \/>\n  in an email message. Because of formatting due to a bad email client, the URL is truncated to<br \/>\n  <code>www.example.com\/activities\/adventur<\/code>. As a result it returns a <code>404<\/code> page.<br \/>\n  With the <code>404<\/code> widget added, however, she could instead see the following:\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"example page where the custom 404 widget generates useful suggestions for the user\" src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-85e50f29c45b.png\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/p>\n<p>\n  In addition to attempting to correct the URL, the <code>404<\/code> widget also suggests the<br \/>\n  following, if available:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a link to the parent subdirectory<\/li>\n<li>a sitemap webpage<\/li>\n<li>site search query suggestions and search box<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n  How do you add the widget? Visit the &#8220;Enhance <code>404<\/code> pages&#8221; section in Webmaster Tools,<br \/>\n  which allows you to generate a JavaScript snippet. You can then copy and paste this into your<br \/>\n  custom <code>404<\/code> page&#8217;s code. As always, don&#8217;t forget to<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/farewell-to-soft-404s\/\">return a proper <code>404<\/code> code<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Can you change the way it looks? Sure. We leave the HTML unstyled initially, but you can edit the<br \/>\n  CSS block that we&#8217;ve included.
