{"id":24557,"date":"2011-06-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/protecting-your-site-with-gruyere\/"},"modified":"2011-06-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T00:00:00","slug":"protecting-your-site-with-gruyere","status":"publish","type":"ar_kb","link":"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/protecting-your-site-with-gruyere\/","title":{"rendered":"Protecting your site with Gruyere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"gargardate\">Friday, June 17, 2011<\/p>\n<p>\n  Based on your feedback, we\u2019re happy to announce that Google web search now supports<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/specify-canonical\/\"><code>link<\/code> <code>rel=\"canonical\"<\/code> relationships<\/a><br \/>\n  specified in HTTP headers as per the syntax described in<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/tools.ietf.org\/html\/rfc5988#section-5\" class=\"external-link\">section 5 of IETF RFC 5988<\/a>.<br \/>\n  Webmasters can use <code>rel=\"canonical\"<\/code> HTTP headers to signal the canonical URL for both<br \/>\n  HTML documents and other types of content such as PDF files.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  To see the <code>rel=\"canonical\"<\/code> HTTP header in action, let\u2019s look at the scenario of a<br \/>\n  website offering a white paper both as an HTML page and as a downloadable PDF alternative, under<br \/>\n  these two URLs:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>https:\/\/www.example.com\/white-paper.html<\/li>\n<li>https:\/\/www.example.com\/white-paper.pdf<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n  In this case, the webmaster can signal to Google that the canonical URL for the PDF download is<br \/>\n  the HTML document by using a <code>rel=\"canonical\"<\/code> HTTP header when the PDF file is<br \/>\n  requested; for example:\n<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n  Another common situation in which <code>rel=\"canonical\"<\/code> HTTP headers may help is when a<br \/>\n  website serves the same file from multiple URLs (for example when using a content distribution<br \/>\n  network) and the webmaster wishes to signal to Google the preferred URL.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  We currently support these link header elements for web search only. As we see how webmasters are<br \/>\n  using these elements, we&#8217;re hoping to add support for them in our other properties.
