Some of the information may be outdated (for example, some images may be missing, and some links may not work anymore).<\/aside>\n<p class=\"gargardate\">Thursday, June 07, 2018<\/p>\n<p>\n  With the eleventh annual <a href=\"https:\/\/events.google.com\/io\/\" class=\"external-link\">Google I\/O<\/a><br \/>\n  wrapped up, it&#8217;s a great time to reflect on some of the highlights.\n<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-we-did-at-io\" tabindex=\"-1\">What we did at I\/O<\/h2>\n<p>\n  The event was a wonderful way to meet many great people from various communities across the globe,<br \/>\n  exchange ideas, and gather feedback. Besides many great<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FglWLLA4g-s\" class=\"external-link\">web sessions<\/a>,<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/codelabs.developers.google.com\/codelabs\/structured-data\/index.html?index=..%2F..%2Findex#0\" class=\"external-link\">codelabs<\/a>,<br \/>\n  and office hours, we shared a few things with the community in two<br \/>\n  sessions specific to Search:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PFwUbgvpdaQ\" class=\"external-link\">Deliver search-friendly JavaScript-powered websites<\/a><br \/>\n    with John Mueller and Tom Greenaway\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=NO-sdBzb1Hc\" class=\"external-link\">Build a successful web presence with Google Search<\/a><br \/>\n    with Mariya Moeva and John Mueller\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Mariya Moeva and John Mueller on stage at Google I\/O\" height=\"225\"\n     src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-d768ffc17edb.png\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n  The sessions included the launch of JavaScript error reporting in the<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/search.google.com\/test\/mobile-friendly\" class=\"external-link\">Mobile Friendly Test tool<\/a>,<br \/>\n  dynamic rendering (we will discuss this in more detail in a future post), and an explanation of<br \/>\n  how CMS can use the Indexing and Search Console APIs to provide users with insights. For example,<br \/>\n  Wix lets their users<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/FBG3-pwMFxU?t=1m22s\" class=\"external-link\">submit their home page to the index<\/a><br \/>\n  and see it in Search results instantly, and Squarespace created a<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/support.squarespace.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360001014647\" class=\"external-link\">Google Search keywords report<\/a><br \/>\n  to help webmasters understand what prospective users search for.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  During the event, we also presented the<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/search.google.com\/search-console\" class=\"external-link\">new Search Console<\/a> in the<br \/>\n  Sandbox area for people to try and were happy to get a lot of positive feedback, from people being<br \/>\n  excited about the<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/7450883\" class=\"external-link\">AMP Status report<\/a><br \/>\n  to others exploring how to improve their content for Search.\n<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"hands-on-codelabs,-case-studies-and-more\" tabindex=\"-1\">Hands-on codelabs, case studies and more<\/h2>\n<p>\n  We presented the<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/codelabs.developers.google.com\/codelabs\/structured-data\/index.html?index=..%2F..%2Findex#0\" class=\"external-link\">Structured Data Codelab<\/a><br \/>\n  that walks you through adding and<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/schema-markup-testing-tool\/\">testing structured data<\/a>.<br \/>\n  We were really happy to see that it ended up being one of the top 20 codelabs by completions at<br \/>\n  I\/O. If you want to learn more about the benefits of using Structured Data, check out our<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/case-studies\">case studies<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hallway discussions at Google I\/O\" height=\"300\"\n     src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-f6d79600312d.png\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\n  During the in-person office hours we saw a lot of interest around HTTPS,<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/rolling-out-mobile-first-indexing\/\">mobile-first indexing<\/a>, AMP,<br \/>\n  and many other topics. The in-person Office Hours were a wonderful addition to our monthly<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/submit-a-question-idea-for-google-seo-office-hours\/\">Webmaster Office Hours hangout<\/a>.<br \/>\n  The questions and comments will help us adjust our documentation and tools by making them clearer<br \/>\n  and easier to use for everyone.\n<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"highlights-and-key-takeaways\" tabindex=\"-1\">Highlights and key takeaways<\/h2>\n<p>\n  We also repeated a few key points that web developers should have an eye on when building<br \/>\n  websites, such as:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n    Indexing and rendering don&#8217;t happen at the same time. We may defer the rendering to a later<br \/>\n    point in time.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    Make sure the content you want in Search has metadata, correct HTTP statuses, and the intended<br \/>\n    canonical tag.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    Hash-based routing (URLs with <code>#<\/code>) should be deprecated in favour of the JavaScript<br \/>\n    History API in Single Page Apps.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    Links should have an <code>href<\/code> attribute pointing to a URL, so Googlebot can follow the links<br \/>\n    properly.\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n  Make sure to<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PFwUbgvpdaQ\" class=\"external-link\">watch this talk<\/a> for<br \/>\n  more on indexing, dynamic rendering and troubleshooting your site.
