Everything else follows from that.<\/p>\n<h2>ALT attributes<\/h2>\n<p>Fill them for two distinct reasons: the text is displayed when the image cannot load, and it helps the bot that crawls for Yandex Images understand the picture. Note the limit stated above \u2014 <code>ALT<\/code> serves image search and accessibility, not the main text index.<\/p>\n<h2>The rule that follows<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Do not use images in place of text.<\/strong> Where a graphic contains words, duplicate them as real text on the page, or the information is invisible for ranking. Two common cases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Graphic menus.<\/strong> The robot can follow the links but learns nothing about what the sections contain. Provide a text menu to the main sections alongside.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flash-built sites<\/strong> need a text version \u2014 for users without the plugin, for mobile devices, and for the robot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Ranking better in image search<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Place illustrations <strong>as close as possible to the text they illustrate<\/strong>; where that is impossible, add a caption.<\/li>\n<li>Give files meaningful names \u2014 Yandex&#8217;s own example contrasts <code>img_123456.jpg<\/code> with <code>cthulhu.jpg<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Make image link text descriptive: not &#8220;Figure 1&#8221; but a description of what the figure shows.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Block CAPTCHA and generated images<\/strong> \u2014 banners, charts, trackers, graphic informers \u2014 in <code>robots.txt<\/code>. These pollute image indexing and consume crawl capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Where this bites hardest<\/h2>\n<p>Businesses whose substance lives in graphics: price lists as images, specification tables exported as PNG, infographics carrying the entire argument of a page, contact details rendered as a picture to defeat scrapers.
