\n It’s that time of year again: writing a blogpost about what happened during the year, and the
\n aspirations for the year to come. Since writing is hard, we asked the Googlers who’ve authored for
\n the Search Central Blog in 2021 to collaborate with us again, and to reflect on what was memorable
\n and what they’re excited about for 2022. Basically, this is their blog post.\n<\/p>\n
\n 2021 was a wild ride, and that’s represented by the responses we got for our questions as well. \n Events were scarce in 2021, so we focused on producing podcasts and \n Jen Granito<\/a> \n Ecommerce<\/a> played a big part in \n Daniel Waisberg<\/a> was really \n As for aspirations for 2022, the answers were as diverse as for the previous question. \n certain tweets<\/a>
\n and websites<\/a> were the most memorable things in
\n 2021, along with the increased focus on
\n speed<\/a>. Both John and
\n Jeff Jose<\/a> were enthusiastic about
\n Core Web Vitals<\/a>, particularly how well it
\n was received by the larger ecosystem and how folks got to work to make the web a better place for
\n all.\n<\/p>\n

\n Aurora Morales<\/a> joined us on the
\n Search Off the Record<\/a> podcast for an
\n episode about
\n Sustainable Monetized websites<\/a>,
\n which was also a
\n trippy video series<\/a>
\n she shot in 2021.\n<\/p>\n
\n and her team spent a lot of time talking with publishers, journalists, and academics about
\n critical issues around the news ecosystem, working together and increasing transparency to better
\n meet users’ needs.\n<\/p>\n
\n Alan Kent<\/a>‘s life in 2021. He’s spent
\n lots of time shopping for things he doesn’t need and
\n writing about his experiences<\/a>, and then
\n longing more for shopping. May we attribute to him that
\n 20% of the internet consists of shopping sites<\/a>?
\n We might never know, however
\n ecommerce sites certainly have more resources<\/a>
\n that can help them serve their users better, while being search friendly also.\n<\/p>\n
\n excited about the
\n Search Console<\/a>
\n developments (surprise!). We added
\n several new functionalities<\/a> to the
\n product,
\n improved data quality<\/a>,
\n and increased how much data we share externally. We launched the
\n Google News report<\/a> (more data!)
\n and made it available through the
\n Search Analytics API along with Discover data<\/a>.
\n We also built a whole
\n new experience<\/a> that joins data from
\n Search Console and Google Analytics with a goal to make it easier to understand content
\n performance.\n<\/p>\nWhat are you looking forward to in 2022?<\/h2>\n
\n thinking about content, such as local news, that’s critical to underrepresented and marginalized
\n audiences, since local news is often more trusted than nationwide news outlets
\n according to a study by the Knight Foundation<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n
