Yandex is precise about the boundary: pages on regional subdomains with identical content are <strong>not<\/strong> duplicates.<\/p>\n<h2>Three costs<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The page you wanted may vanish because the robot chose a different one from the group. Sometimes the pages are not grouped at all, and then they compete with each other \u2014 which is worse.<\/li>\n<li>The indexed address can change, which quietly breaks reporting in analytics.<\/li>\n<li>Crawling takes longer, so important pages reach the search database more slowly, and the site carries additional robot load.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Finding them<\/h2>\n<p>Searchable pages \u2192 Excluded pages, filtered by the status <em>Deleted: Duplicate<\/em>; in the downloadable archive they carry the status <code>DUPLICATE<\/code>. Duplicates caused by GET parameters also raise a notice on the Troubleshooting page. Note that an AMP page counts as a duplicate of its normal version.<\/p>\n<h2>The four patterns and their correct fixes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Same content at different URLs.<\/strong> A 301 redirect, a canonical declaration, or <code>Disallow<\/code> \/ <code>noindex<\/code>. Choose which page survives on the basis of what helps visitors \u2014 for a set of similar products, keeping the catalogue page lets the visitor see the alternatives. For HTML versus AMP, Yandex recommends keeping the HTML page.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Home page duplicated at <code>\/index.php<\/code> and similar.<\/strong> Redirect or canonical \u2014 but redirect <em>toward<\/em> the home page. Yandex points out the trap: redirecting <code>\/<\/code> to <code>\/index.php<\/code> means the content of <code>\/index.php<\/code> is shown at <code>\/<\/code>, which is the opposite of what was intended.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trailing slash variants.<\/strong> Use a <strong>301, not canonical<\/strong> \u2014 Yandex says canonical may be ignored here. Pick the direction based on which form is already indexed, so you are not forcing a re-index for nothing. On the home page alone, no configuration is needed: <code>example.com<\/code> and <code>example.com\/<\/code> are recognised as the same page.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GET parameters.<\/strong> <code>Clean-param<\/code>, or the GET parameter settings in the console.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Where duplicates come from<\/h2>\n<p>Two sources, and only one is a defect. Natural duplication \u2014 a product listed under several categories \u2014 and CMS artefacts: printer-friendly versions, session identifiers, tracking tags, filter combinations.
