Yandex includes it because it has measured the result \u2014 <strong>order conversion is 5\u201310% higher on sites where autofill works correctly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>The diagnostic that saves time<\/h2>\n<p>Yandex states it plainly: <strong>if autofill does not work in Yandex Browser, it probably will not work in other browsers either<\/strong>. The recognition heuristics are broadly similar, so one browser is a reasonable proxy for all of them.<\/p>\n<h2>The markup rules<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The form must <strong>meet HTML standards<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Inputs need an <code>autocomplete<\/code> attribute with a <em>valid<\/em> value \u2014 <code>given-name<\/code>, <code>email<\/code> and so on.<\/li>\n<li>Inputs must be <strong>children of a <code>form<\/code> element<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Attributes must be intuitive: <code>first_name<\/code>, <code>fname<\/code>, <code>given_name<\/code> for a first name; <code>phone<\/code>, <code>tel<\/code>, <code>telephone<\/code> for a number; <code>org<\/code>, <code>company<\/code> for an organisation.<\/li>\n<li><code>label for=<\/code> must point unambiguously at its input.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yandex&#8217;s counter-example is instructive: <code>id=\"xdia_13\"<\/code> is unrecognisable; <code>name=\"mail address\"<\/code> is ambiguous between email and postal address; a textarea with placeholder &#8220;Address&#8221; could be email, delivery address or website.<\/p>\n<h2>Form submission, which is the subtle half<\/h2>\n<p>The browser saves entered data only if it can tell the form was submitted. The reliable signal is a <code>form<\/code> element containing an <code>input type=\"submit\"<\/code>. Without them, the browser falls back on heuristics \u2014 watching navigation, AJAX requests, removed <code>iframe<\/code>s, hidden fields \u2014 which Yandex admits <strong>sometimes trigger falsely and save incorrect data<\/strong>. A <code>div<\/code> styled as a button and wired to JavaScript is the pattern that breaks this.<\/p>\n<h2>Disabling it<\/h2>\n<p>Any <em>invalid<\/em> <code>autocomplete<\/code> value disables autofill \u2014 <code>none<\/code>, <code>nope<\/code>, anything arbitrary.
