Clients process the <code>meta<\/code> tags and ignore those they don&#8217;t<br \/>\n  support. <code>meta<\/code> tags are added to the <code>&lt;head&gt;<\/code> section of<br \/>\n  your HTML page and generally look like this:<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<aside class=\"key-point\">\n<p>\n        <b>If you use a CMS, such as Wix, WordPress, or Blogger<\/b>, you might not be able to edit<br \/>\n        your HTML directly, or you might prefer not to. Instead, your CMS might have a search engine<br \/>\n        settings page or some other mechanism to tell search engines about <code>meta<\/code> tags.\n      <\/p>\n<p>\n        If you want to add a <code>meta<\/code> tag to your website, search for instructions<br \/>\n        about modifying the <code>&lt;head&gt;<\/code> of your page on your CMS (for example,<br \/>\n        search for &#8220;wix add <span>meta<\/span> tags&#8221;).\n      <\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Google supports the following <code>meta<\/code> tags:<\/p>\n<table class=\"responsive\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th colspan=\"2\">List of <code>meta<\/code> tags that Google supports<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"description\" tabindex=\"-1\">description<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>        Use this tag to provide a short description of the page. In some situations, this<br \/>\n        description is used in the<br \/>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/snippets\/\">snippet shown in search results<\/a>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"robots\" tabindex=\"-1\">robots and googlebot<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          These <code>meta<\/code> tags control the behavior of search engine crawling and<br \/>\n          indexing.\n        <\/p>\n<p>The <code>&lt;meta name=\"robots\" ...<\/code> tag applies to all search engines, while<br \/>\n          the <code>&lt;meta name=\"googlebot ...<\/code> tag is specific to Google.<\/p>\n<p>In the case of conflicting <code>robots<\/code> (or <code>googlebot<\/code>)<br \/>\n          <code>meta<\/code> tags, the more restrictive tag applies. For example, if a page has<br \/>\n          both the <code>max-snippet:50<\/code> and <code>nosnippet<\/code> tags, the<br \/>\n          <code>nosnippet<\/code> tag will apply.<\/p>\n<p>The default values are <code>index, follow<\/code> and don&#8217;t need to be specified.<br \/>\n          For a full list of values that Google supports, see the<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/robots-meta-tag\/#directives\">list of valid rules<\/a>.\n        <\/p>\n<p>You can also specify this information in the header of your pages using the<br \/>\n          <code>X-Robots-Tag<\/code> HTTP header rule. This is particularly useful if you wish to limit<br \/>\n          indexing of non-HTML files like graphics or other kinds of documents.<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/robots-meta-tag\/\">More information about robots <code>meta<\/code> tags<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"notranslate\" tabindex=\"-1\">notranslate<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          When Google recognizes that the contents of a page aren&#8217;t in the language that the<br \/>\n          user likely wants to read, Google may provide a <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/translated-results\/\">translated title link and snippet<\/a> in search results.<br \/>\n          If the user clicks the translated title link, all further user interaction with the page<br \/>\n          is through Google Translate, which will automatically translate any links followed. In<br \/>\n          general, this gives you the chance to provide your unique and<br \/>\n          compelling content to a much larger group of users. However, there may be situations<br \/>\n          where this is not desired. This <code>meta<\/code> tag tells Google that you don&#8217;t want<br \/>\n          us to provide a translation for this page.\n        <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"nopagereadaloud\" tabindex=\"-1\">nopagereadaloud<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Prevents various <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/google-read-aloud-user-agent\/\">Google text-to-speech services<\/a><br \/>\n           from reading aloud web pages using text-to-speech (TTS).<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"google-site-verification\" tabindex=\"-1\">google-site-verification<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          You can use this tag on the top-level page of your site to <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/9008080\" class=\"external-link\">verify ownership for Search Console<\/a>.<br \/>\n          Note that while the values of the <code>name<\/code> and<br \/>\n          <code>content<\/code> attributes must match exactly what is provided to you (including<br \/>\n          upper and lower case), it doesn&#8217;t matter if you change the tag from XHTML to HTML or<br \/>\n          if the format of the tag matches the format of your page.\n        <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"content-type\" tabindex=\"-1\">Content-Type and charset<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          These tags define the page&#8217;s content type and character set respectively. Make sure that you<br \/>\n          surround the value of the <code>content<\/code> attribute in the<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/en-US\/docs\/Web\/HTML\/Element\/meta#attr-http-equiv\" class=\"external-link\"><code>http-equiv<\/code><\/a><br \/>\n          <code>meta<\/code> tag with quotes&mdash;otherwise the<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/en-US\/docs\/Web\/HTML\/Element\/meta#charset\" class=\"external-link\"><code>charset<\/code><\/a><br \/>\n          attribute may be interpreted incorrectly. We recommend using Unicode\/UTF-8 where possible.\n        <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"refresh\" tabindex=\"-1\">refresh<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          This tag, commonly called meta-refresh, sends the user to a new URL after a certain<br \/>\n          amount of time, and is sometimes used as a simple form of redirection. However, it is<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/WCAG10-HTML-TECHS\/#meta-element\" class=\"external-link\">not supported by all browsers and can be confusing to the user<\/a>.<br \/>\n          We recommend using a server-side<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/redirects-and-google\/\"><code>301<\/code> redirect<\/a><br \/>\n          instead.\n        <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"viewport\" tabindex=\"-1\">viewport<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          This tag tells the browser how to render a page on a mobile device. Presence of this tag<br \/>\n          indicates to Google that the page is mobile friendly.<br \/>\n          <a href=\"https:\/\/web.dev\/articles\/responsive-web-design-basics#size-content\" class=\"external-link\">Read more about how to configure the <code>viewport<\/code> <code>meta<\/code> tag.<\/a>\n        <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3 id=\"rating\" tabindex=\"-1\">rating<\/h3>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\n          Labels a page as containing sexually-explicit adult content, to signal that it be filtered by SafeSearch<br \/>\n          results. <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/guidelines-for-sites-with-explicit-content\/\">Learn more about labeling SafeSearch pages.<\/a>\n        <\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2 id=\"data-nosnippet\" tabindex=\"-1\">HTML tag attributes<\/h2>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/docs\/Web\/HTML\/Attributes\" class=\"external-link\">HTML tag attributes<\/a><br \/>\n  are additional values of HTML tags that configure the parent tag. For example, the<br \/>\n  <code>href<\/code> attribute of the <code>&lt;a><\/code> tag configures the resource the anchor<br \/>\n  tag points to: <code>&lt;a <strong>href=\"https:\/\/example.com\/\"<\/strong>...><\/code>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Google Search supports a limited number of HTML attributes for indexing purposes. Attributes<br \/>\n  like <code>src<\/code> and <code>href<\/code> are used for discovering resources such as images<br \/>\n  and URLs. Google also supports various<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/rel-attributes\/\"><code>rel<\/code> attributes<\/a><br \/>\n  that allow site owners to qualify outbound links.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/robots-meta-tag\/#data-nosnippet-attr\"><code>data-nosnippet<\/code> attribute<\/a><br \/>\n  of <code>div<\/code>, <code>span<\/code>, and <code>section<\/code> tags allow you to exclude<br \/>\n  parts of an HTML page from snippets.\n<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"other-points-to-note\" tabindex=\"-1\">Other points to note<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n    Google can read both HTML and XHTML-style <code>meta<\/code> tags, regardless of the code<br \/>\n    used on the page.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    To ensure machine readability, the <code>head<\/code> section must be<br \/>\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/use-valid-html-to-specify-page-metadata\/\">valid HTML<\/a> and in case of<br \/>\n    attributes, all parent tags closed accordingly.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    With the exception of <code>google-site-verification<\/code>, letter case is generally not<br \/>\n    important in <code>meta<\/code> tags.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    You can use other <code>meta<\/code> tags if they are important to your site, but Google will<br \/>\n    ignore <code>meta<\/code> tags that it doesn&#8217;t support.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    If you&#8217;re considering using JavaScript to inject or change <code>meta<\/code> tags, proceed<br \/>\n    with caution. We recommend that you avoid using JavaScript to inject or change<br \/>\n    <code>meta<\/code> tags whenever possible, and if you must use it,<br \/>\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/google-bilgi-bankasi\/fix-javascript-problems\/\">test your implementations<\/a><br \/>\n    thoroughly.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    To check the <code>meta<\/code> tags and attributes on your pages, use the<br \/>\n    <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/9012289\" class=\"external-link\">URL Inspection Tool<\/a>.\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google supports both page-level meta tags and tag attributes.
