Since 2019 they are treated as <em>hints<\/em> rather than strict directives, Google may still use the link for discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><code>rel=\"sponsored\"<\/code>, paid or advertising links.<\/li><li><code>rel=\"ugc\"<\/code>, user-generated content such as comments and forum posts.<\/li><li><code>rel=\"nofollow\"<\/code>, a general &#8220;do not associate this site with the target&#8221; signal.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where this matters legally as well as technically<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paid links that are not marked are a link scheme violation. Marking them is not optional if money or goods changed hands, including gifted product reviews and affiliate links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"ar-kb-tavsiye\"><p><strong>Alien Road recommends:<\/strong> mark affiliate and sponsored links as you publish, not in a later cleanup. Retrofitting attributes across an archive is painful, and the risk in the meantime falls on the publisher.
