You may have encountered social<br \/>\n  engineering in a deceptive download button, or an image ad that falsely claims your system is out<br \/>\n  of date. Today, we&#8217;re expanding Safe Browsing protection to protect you from such deceptive<br \/>\n  embedded content, like social engineering ads.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt height=\"265\" src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-4ecdceedd619.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\"><\/p>\n<p>\n  Consistent with the social engineering policy we announced in November, embedded content (like<br \/>\n  ads) on a web page will be considered social engineering when they either:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n    Pretend to act, or look and feel, like a trusted entity&mdash;like your own device or browser,<br \/>\n    or the website itself.\n  <\/li>\n<li>\n    Try to trick you into doing something you&#8217;d only do for a trusted entity&mdash;like sharing a<br \/>\n    password or calling tech support.\n  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Below are some examples of deceptive content, shown via ads:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt height=\"226\" src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-2687d1ea040c.png\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\"><\/p>\n<p>This image claims that your software is out-of-date to trick you into clicking &#8220;update&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt height=\"201\" src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-1e2ae0ecfa54.png\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\"><\/p>\n<p>\n  This image mimics a dialogue from the FLV software developer&mdash;but it does not actually<br \/>\n  originate from this developer.\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt height=\"48\" src=\"https:\/\/alienroad.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/kb-gorsel\/g-963ead0c4e10.png\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\"><\/p>\n<p>\n  These buttons seem like they will produce content that relate to the site (like a TV show or<br \/>\n  sports video stream) by mimicking the site&#8217;s look and feel. They are often not distinguishable<br \/>\n  from the rest of the page.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Our fight against unwanted software and social engineering is still just beginning. We&#8217;ll continue<br \/>\n  to improve Google&#8217;s<br \/>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/transparencyreport\/safebrowsing\/\" class=\"external-link\">Safe Browsing<\/a><br \/>\n  protection to help more people stay safe online.\n<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"will-my-site-be-affected\" tabindex=\"-1\">Will my site be affected?<\/h2>\n<p>\n  If visitors to your web site consistently see social engineering content, Google Safe Browsing may<br \/>\n  warn users when they visit the site. If your site is flagged for containing social engineering<br \/>\n  content, you should troubleshoot with Search Console.
