When a status changes, the entry disappears from the report after a while, so the list is self-cleaning once the underlying page is fixed.<\/li>\n<li>The link text.<\/li>\n<li>When the information was last updated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Up to 10,000 broken internal links per site.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Why this list is the one to clear<\/h2>\n<p>Because it is entirely within your control. External broken links depend on other people&#8217;s sites; these are yours, created by your templates and your editors, and every one of them wastes a crawl request that a real page could have used.<\/p>\n<h2>The three usual causes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Content moved without a redirect<\/strong>, most often during a redesign.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hard-coded links in templates<\/strong> that survived a URL structure change \u2014 these produce the largest counts, because one template error multiplies across every page using it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Typos in hand-written editorial links.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Working method<\/h2>\n<p>Sort by the target URL rather than the source. A hundred entries pointing at the same missing page is one fix; a hundred entries pointing at a hundred different pages is an editorial problem. Fix by pattern, then let the report clear itself as statuses change.<\/p>\n<h2>The signal worth watching<\/h2>\n<p>The trend, not the total.
