Long URLs \u2014 too many CGI parameters or nested directories \u2014 can prevent indexing regardless of format.<\/p>\n<h2>PDF: the rules that decide whether a document exists<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Only text content is indexed. Text represented as images is not.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>A PDF containing only images has just its first three pages indexed.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A PDF containing text is indexed in full.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That middle rule is worth pausing on. A forty-page scanned catalogue contributes three pages of essentially nothing. For any organisation whose substance sits in PDFs \u2014 manufacturers, professional services, public bodies \u2014 the difference between a scanned document and a text-based one is the difference between an asset and dead weight. Running OCR over an archive is often the single highest-value indexing job available.<\/p>\n<h2>SWF<\/h2>\n<p>Indexed when directly linked or embedded with <code>object<\/code> \u0438\u043b\u0438 <code>embed<\/code>. Yandex indexes text from <code>DefineText<\/code>, <code>DefineText2<\/code>, <code>DefineEditText<\/code> and <code>Metadata<\/code>, and links from <code>DoAction<\/code>, <code>DefineButton<\/code> and <code>DefineButton2<\/code>. Useful content inside an SWF can lead the robot back to the page hosting it.<\/p>\n<h2>Frames<\/h2>\n<p><code>frameset<\/code> and <code>frame<\/code> are permitted: the robot indexes the loaded content and identifies the source document from the frame contents. Note the contrast with <code>iframe<\/code>, whose loaded documents are <em>not<\/em> indexed.<\/p>\n<h2>What to do with this<\/h2>\n<p>Audit which documents carry real value, confirm they are text rather than scans, keep them under 10 MB, and give them clean short URLs.
