Images are indexed based on the image itself and on the page that hosts it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What helps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Descriptive filenames, <code>navy-linen-shirt.jpg<\/code>, not <code>IMG_4821.jpg<\/code>.<\/li><li>Meaningful <code>alt<\/code> text that describes the image, not a keyword list. Decorative images take <code>alt=\"\"<\/code>.<\/li><li>Relevant surrounding text, captions and nearby copy give context.<\/li><li>Standard <code>&lt;img&gt;<\/code> elements. CSS background images are not indexed as images.<\/li><li>Explicit <code>width<\/code> and <code>height<\/code> to prevent layout shift.<\/li><li>An image sitemap when images are on a CDN or loaded by script.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What hurts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blocked image directories in <code>robots.txt<\/code>, images that only load on interaction, and enormous files that time out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"ar-kb-tavsiye\"><p><strong>Alien Road recommends:<\/strong> write alt text as if describing the image to someone on the phone.
