That is why Yandex shows almost nothing until you prove you control the domain. Verification is the gate, and the method you choose determines how easily you lose access two years from now.<\/p>\n<h2>The three methods<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>HTML file in the root directory<\/strong> (Yandex&#8217;s own recommendation). The file must contain the provided code and <em>nothing else<\/em>; a server or CMS that wraps the file in a template, adds meta tags or injects analytics breaks it. Survives header rewrites, dies in a platform migration.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meta tag on the home page<\/strong>, placed inside <code>&lt;head&gt;<\/code>. Anywhere else on the page does not count. The quickest method and the first casualty of a redesign.<\/li>\n<li><strong>DNS TXT record.<\/strong> Slowest to propagate, and the only one that survives both a redesign and a replatform. Requires access to the domain zone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Verification is continuous, not a one-off<\/h2>\n<p>Yandex re-checks the verification marker regularly. If it disappears \u2014 the file was cleaned up, the tag was dropped by a template rewrite, the DNS zone was migrated \u2014 the site returns to unverified status and a notification is issued. The statistics already collected are not lost, but access to them stops until the marker is restored. This is why &#8220;verify and forget&#8221; fails: the code has to stay on the site permanently.<\/p>\n<h2>Checking your own work<\/h2>\n<p>Before clicking Verify, run the URL through Tools \u2192 Server response check and switch the bot selector from the main indexing bot to the <strong>Yandex Webmaster bot<\/strong>. It reports the HTTP status and the actual page content the robot received, which settles the two arguments that otherwise consume an afternoon: whether the file is really where you think it is, and whether the server is quietly adding markup to it.<\/p>\n<h2>Subdomains and CMS shortcuts<\/h2>\n<p>If you verified the primary address yourself, the same verification code works for subdomains \u2014 add each subdomain to the console and place the same file or tag there. This shortcut does <em>not<\/em> apply when your rights on the main domain were assigned by another user rather than verified by you; in that case every subdomain has to be verified separately. Several site builders (Drupal, Joomla, Wix, LiveJournal) expose a field for the meta tag or TXT record so no file editing is needed.<\/p>\n<h2>If you cannot verify at all<\/h2>\n<p>You do not have to. Someone who already holds the Owner role can assign you a role instead, which grants access without touching the site.
