Indexing and submission

API push and automated submission

Ask AI about this page

2 min read

API push (主动推送) is the fastest way to tell Baidu about a new page, and Baidu recommends it explicitly: push the day’s new links immediately so they are collected promptly.

What it requires

A server-side integration: a token from the platform, and a request sent when content is published. It is the one submission method with a development cost, and the only one that operates at the moment of publication rather than on a crawl cycle.

Why it matters commercially

Baidu’s own index-volume guidance names the scenario: when content is syndicated to partners or republished on larger platforms, Baidu may index the external copy and reject the original. The stated remedy is to push new URLs through the API immediately and delay syndication so your copy is seen first. That makes API push part of content protection rather than an efficiency measure.

The failure Baidu documents

Push failing because the server restricts outbound access to the internet. The integration is correct, the code runs, and the request never leaves the network. It is worth checking first when pushes report failure — the symptom looks like an API problem and is a firewall rule.

Implementation notes

  • Push on publication and on meaningful update — not on every save.
  • Push canonical URLs only.
  • Log the response. A push that returns an error and is discarded silently is an integration that does nothing while appearing to work.
  • Respect the daily limit, and keep the fast-collection quota for genuinely time-sensitive pages.

Automatic push as an alternative

Where server-side work is impossible, the JavaScript automatic-push component submits a URL when a page is viewed. It is lighter to deploy and depends on someone visiting the page — which makes it a discovery aid rather than a publication signal.

Verification

Compare publication timestamps against first appearance in the index for a sample of pages. If the gap does not shorten after the integration goes live, the constraint is elsewhere and the integration should be checked rather than trusted.

How we apply this

The outbound-firewall failure is the one we check first, because it is documented by Baidu and it looks exactly like a broken integration. We also insist on logging the response: a push loop that silently discards errors is worse than no integration, since everyone believes the problem is solved. The measurement is simple — publication timestamp against first index appearance.
