A Meta Advantage+ rollout works when tracking and the product catalogue are reliable before launch, the pilot is set up as a fair comparison, creative volume is planned, and account-level controls such as brand safety and existing-customer budget rules are in place. The checklist below takes a team from first test to everyday use.
Advantage+ is Meta’s family of AI-driven ad features. It includes Advantage+ sales campaigns, which automate audience, placement and creative delivery for conversion goals, along with options such as Advantage+ audience, Advantage+ placements, Advantage+ creative enhancements and Advantage+ catalogue ads. Meta has been consolidating campaign setup around these automated defaults, and names and options shift from time to time, so check Ads Manager for the current layout.

What does Advantage+ automate, and what stays with you?
The system decides who sees ads, where and which creative combination, based on your conversion signal. You still control the offer, the creative inputs, the budget, the conversion event, the catalogue quality and certain account-level settings such as brand safety and audience exclusions where Meta allows them.
That division shapes the checklist. Most failures come from weak inputs, not from the automation.
Phase 1: tracking checklist
- Meta Pixel installed on all key pages and firing the standard events you need, such as ViewContent, AddToCart and Purchase or Lead.
- Conversions API set up, through a partner integration such as Shopify’s or a server-side setup, with deduplication between browser and server events.
- Event Match Quality reviewed in Events Manager, with customer information parameters passed where consent allows.
- Purchase values and currency correct, so value-based optimisation has accurate data.
- Domain verified and aggregated event settings reviewed where they apply.
- Consent mode and cookie banner behaviour checked for EU and Turkish privacy requirements.
Phase 2: catalogue checklist
For e-commerce, catalogue quality drives Advantage+ catalogue ads and dynamic creative.

- Catalogue connected through Commerce Manager with automatic updates from the store or a feed.
- Titles descriptive and consistent; prices and availability matching the website.
- Images at good resolution, with lifestyle images added where the format supports them.
- Product sets created for main categories, best-sellers and margin groups.
- Errors and warnings in Commerce Manager diagnostics reviewed and fixed.
Phase 3: creative checklist
Automation needs options to test. A single image and one headline give the system little room. Plan a creative mix with several formats: short vertical video for Reels and Stories, square or 4:5 images for feeds, and catalogue formats for retargeting-style delivery.
Decide which Advantage+ creative enhancements to allow. Some, such as brightness adjustments or adding music, are harmless for most brands. Others, such as generated text variations or image expansion, need review in regulated sectors or for brands with strict guidelines. Turn off enhancements you cannot approve.
Phase 4: pilot design
A fair test answers whether Advantage+ beats your current setup on the metric that matters.
- Pick a comparison: Advantage+ sales campaign against your best existing manual campaign.
- Use Meta’s A/B testing tool or a structured test with separate budgets and no audience overlap where possible.
- Set the success metric in advance: cost per purchase, return on ad spend, or cost per qualified lead.
- Allow enough budget for the campaign to exit learning. Meta’s guidance has generally been around fifty optimisation events per ad set in a week.
- Run the test for at least two to four weeks, avoiding major sale periods unless both arms experience them.
- Agree not to change budgets or creative mid-test unless something breaks.
Phase 5: controls and governance
Before scaling, set the guardrails. Configure brand safety and inventory filters for Audience Network and in-stream placements. Review settings for existing customers, since Advantage+ sales campaigns can spend heavily on people who would have bought anyway; use the available customer list settings and budget caps for existing customers if your goal is new customer growth.
Document who can change campaign settings and how changes are recorded. Automated campaigns are easy to disrupt by frequent edits that restart learning.
Phase 6: from pilot to production
If the pilot wins, move gradually. Increase budgets in steps rather than doubling overnight, and watch cost per result for a few days after each change. Keep a smaller manual or prospecting campaign running as a benchmark. Refresh creative on a schedule, since performance tends to drop as the same assets reach the same people repeatedly.
Check incrementality periodically. Meta’s conversion lift studies, where available, or geography-based tests show whether Advantage+ drives sales that would not have happened otherwise. Platform-reported conversions alone tend to overstate the effect of any channel.
Keep a change log through this phase. Note every budget step, creative refresh and settings change with a date, so that a drop in performance can be matched to a cause instead of guessed at in a meeting.
What are common mistakes?
Launching with only browser-side tracking. Optimising for add-to-cart because purchases are few, which teaches the system to find browsers. Loading one or two creatives. Ending the test after a few days. Ignoring the split between new and returning customers. And treating Meta’s reported return on ad spend as the whole truth without comparing with store or CRM data.
How Alien Road applies Meta Advantage+
In a typical engagement, discovery is an account and tracking audit: Events Manager diagnostics, Conversions API coverage, Event Match Quality, catalogue health and past campaign results. Tracking and catalogue problems are fixed before any pilot.
Setup follows the checklist. We prepare a creative mix with the client’s design team, decide which enhancements are allowed, and build the pilot as a controlled comparison with agreed success criteria and a fixed duration.
Measurement compares the pilot with the control on the agreed metric, then checks results against store or CRM data. Weekly reports during scaling show budget changes, cost per result, creative fatigue signals and new versus returning customer share, so the client sees exactly where the spend went.
Where to start this week
Open Events Manager and check three things: whether the Conversions API is active, your Event Match Quality for the purchase or lead event, and whether purchase values look right. If any of these is weak, fix it before launching Advantage+. If all three are healthy, draft the pilot plan with a success metric and a four-week window.
