Working with Yandex Webmaster

Yandex Webmaster exists to answer one question — how easily can users find your site — and it does so through four groups of tools.

What it offers

• Search queries — statistics on positions, impressions, clicks and click-through rate.
• Site diagnostics — errors that interfere with indexing, whether the site is safe for visitors, and notifications about check results.
• Indexing — how often the robot visits, submission of updated pages for reindexing, and sitemap update signalling.
• Links — internal links on the site and external links pointing at it.

For a site not yet in Yandex, the console is also where you report its existence.

Why this is not optional groundwork

It is the only place that shows what the search engine actually did with your pages, rather than what a third-party estimate believes happened. Exclusion reasons per URL, the discovery source per page, the response the robot received, regional assignment, violation status — none of that exists outside the console, and no external tool can reconstruct it.

How it compares with Search Console

The overlap is large and the differences are the interesting part. Yandex exposes explicit regional assignment, mirror grouping, per-page exclusion reasons, the discovery source, and up to 150,000 queries per site. Anyone treating Yandex as “Google with a different logo” will miss all five, and they are where the work actually differs.

The first-week task

Connect it, verify by DNS, set the region, submit the sitemap, review the diagnostics list, and enable the notification topics that matter. That is an hour of work, and every measurement in the engagement afterwards depends on it having been done properly.
