How many site pages are included in search?

“How many of our pages are in Yandex?” has two answers, and they measure different things.

The quick external check

Open a private browsing window and search for the site address, with or without the url operator — url:https://example.com. If the home page appears, the site is indexed. The private window matters: personalised results otherwise flatter the answer.

The same works per page: enter the page URL, with or without the operator, to see whether that specific page is present.

The console numbers

• Searchable pages — and Yandex points at the precise method: download the statistics file and count entries with the SEARCHABLE status.

The caveat that explains the discrepancy

The count of pages loaded into the robot’s database includes pages that cannot be shown in search results — for example, pages you recently submitted for removal. So “known to Yandex” and “available in search” are different numbers, and comparing the wrong pair produces false alarms in both directions.

Why the file, not the screen

On any site above a few thousand pages, the on-screen report is capped and the exported file is not. Counting by status in the export is the only reliable measure, and it gives the breakdown — how many searchable, how many excluded and for which reason — in one pass rather than several.

What the number is good for

As a trend, not a target. A falling count is a signal worth tracing to a date and a cause; a rising one is meaningless if the additions are filter URLs. Yandex states elsewhere that there is no index quota, so the goal is never a bigger number — it is that the pages you care about are among them.
