Yandex supports markup for student academic work — essays, dissertations and similar papers — through the CreativeWork schema, producing dedicated snippets in results.

The distinguishing property

learningResourceType declares the paper type from a supported list. This is what separates academic work from ordinary articles in Yandex’s eyes, and it is the property a developer following a general Schema.org guide would never think to add.

Why this category exists at all

Academic material has a specific search behaviour: users look for a work type on a topic — a dissertation on a subject, a coursework paper in a discipline — rather than for a title. Structured markup lets the result state what kind of document it is before the click, which for a repository is the difference between a useful result and an ambiguous one.

The usual conditions

One work per page as the main content; the page indexed; the markup valid in Yandex’s own validator, which is the only tool that knows the supported property set. And the standard reservation — Yandex may use the data fully, partly or not at all, in any of its services.

Where it applies outside its obvious audience

Any site publishing a defined type of document rather than an article: technical standards, legal templates, research reports, whitepapers. The lesson generalises even where this schema does not fit — when a document’s kind is what users search for, declaring the kind in machine-readable form is worth more than describing it in prose.

Our position

Relevant to educational repositories and libraries rather than to commercial sites. We keep it documented because the pattern — a Yandex-supported type that a general Schema.org implementation would miss entirely — recurs across this whole section.
