Query statistics tracks the site’s standing over time rather than query by query, and it can be sliced by region and by device type — two dimensions that matter more in Yandex than elsewhere, because regional assignment is explicit and mobile is judged separately.
The three groupings
- Group — statistics for query groups, either defined by the service or built by hand on the group management page.
- Popular queries — generated over the top 3,000 queries that produced most impressions in the last three months.
- Saved — a group you populate with the queries that actually matter commercially, which is where per-query detail is available.
Impressions and clicks include both organic results and dynamic placements — additional positions where Yandex Direct advertising appears. Worth knowing before attributing a change to organic performance.
Regional analysis
The region list contains every region where the site reached the top 50 at least once, sorted by impressions. For a business serving several cities this turns a single national average into something actionable: national position steady while one region collapses is a common pattern, and it is invisible in the aggregate.
Reading trends without fooling yourself
- Data updates daily; single-day steps are usually reporting changes rather than ranking events.
- Average position hides distribution. Ten queries moving from third to eighth and ten moving from twentieth to fifteenth leave the average untouched and the business materially worse off.
- Compare with the same period last year before concluding anything on a seasonal site.
- Numbers here will not match Wordstat or Metrica, for the structural reasons set out in query analytics.
What it is for and what it is not
This report detects direction. Diagnosis happens elsewhere — in per-query monitoring and per-page statistics. Using it to answer “why” produces confident, wrong explanations, because an average has no cause.
How we apply this
We report position as a distribution rather than an average, and we split by region for any client operating in more than one city. The single most common misreading we correct is a stable average concealing two opposite movements. The second is a client counting dynamic placements as organic growth — the traffic is real, it is just not the thing the SEO work was meant to produce.
