Yandex is the search engine that decides how visible a site is in Russia, across the CIS, and in the Russian-speaking market in Türkiye. Its fundamentals overlap with Google — crawlable pages, useful content, fast delivery — and it diverges sharply in the details that decide outcomes.

Where Yandex genuinely differs

  • Mirrors. Alternate addresses of one site are grouped, one is designated primary, and only that address ranks. There is no Google equivalent and it behaves nothing like a canonical tag.
  • Explicit regionality. A site declares its region in a form, and that declaration decides which location-dependent queries it is eligible for.
  • Behavioural weight. User behaviour counts for more here — which is why simulating it is a named violation with a site-wide penalty.
  • Console depth. Per-URL exclusion reasons, the discovery source for every page, up to 150,000 queries, Clean-param, GET-parameter configuration, crawl-rate control, and the clicks-on-broken-links report that exists nowhere else.
  • Conduct signals. Ranking can reflect how a business treats its customers, cross-verified so that fake complaints and self-published praise are useless.

What this knowledge base covers

  • Yandex Webmaster — every tool, what it actually reports, and which numbers are worth acting on.
  • Indexing — how pages are discovered, why they are dropped, and how to get them back.
  • Quality and violations — the nine violation types, the two 30-day windows, and what recovery involves.
  • Search appearance — snippets, sitelinks, favicons, regionality, structured data and the supported schemas.
  • Reference material — robots.txt parsing errors, sitemap errors, HTTP status codes and indexing errors, with the specific limits attached.

Who it is for

Marketing teams and developers who need Yandex visibility and cannot find the answer in English elsewhere. Most Yandex documentation is written for a Russian-speaking audience; this is our reading of it for teams working in English and Turkish, with the working method attached to each page.

How to use it

Start with the console pages if you are setting a site up, with the indexing section if pages are missing, and with the violations section if something was applied to the site. Each entry ends with what we would actually do on a client project — the part the official documentation, reasonably, does not provide.

Alien Road

So setzen wir das um

We treat Yandex as a second discipline rather than a Google checklist with a different logo. Roughly seventy percent of the technical work transfers; the remaining thirty — mirrors, regionality, the console, behavioural signals — is where clients either win the market or waste the budget. This knowledge base exists because that thirty percent is barely documented in English anywhere, including in our own industry’s literature.
