Important page monitoring

Important page monitoring is per-URL surveillance: pick the pages that matter commercially and Yandex reports what happens to them in search, rather than leaving you to notice a change in an aggregate.

Two ways to build the list

  • From recommendations. Yandex analyses results and suggests the pages with the most clicks and impressions over the past week (Monday to Sunday). These can be added individually or all at once.
  • By URL. Enter a full address or a path from the site root beginning with //news resolves against the site’s own domain.

The limit is 100 URLs per site. Collection usually takes minutes and can take hours.

What is reported per page

The status at the last crawl and at the last search database update: crawl date and server response, whether the page is in search, and — through the notification topics — changes to the title, the description, the declared canonical, the page content as the robot sees it, the response code, and the search status itself, including exclusion as a low-demand page.

Why the 100-page limit is a feature

It forces a decision about which pages actually matter. The list that produces value is not the hundred most-visited pages — it is the pages whose failure would be expensive: the pages behind paid campaigns, the top revenue categories, the pages that took months to rank. Yandex’s recommendation engine offers the popular ones; the commercially critical ones have to be chosen deliberately.

The failure it is built to catch

A deployment changes a template and, with it, the title or the canonical tag on a key page. Nothing looks broken. Traffic declines gradually, and by the time it is visible in a monthly report the cause is three deployments back. Monitoring turns that into a notification on the day it happens, with the specific field named.

Setup note

Notifications for these topics are configured on the monitoring page itself, or globally in notification settings. Adding pages without enabling notifications produces a report nobody reads.

So setzen wir das um

We set this up in the first week of an engagement and populate it from the client’s revenue, not from Yandex’s click recommendations — the pages worth watching are the ones that would hurt if they broke, which are rarely the busiest. The alert that has justified the whole exercise more than once is a canonical change on a category page after a release: caught the same day, it is a five-minute fix; caught in the monthly report, it is a quarter of lost ranking.
