Baidu publishes an explicit Mobile Friendly standard defining what a mobile page must do to be treated as mobile-optimised.
The requirements
- Content fits the viewport without horizontal scrolling.
- Text is legible without zooming; tap targets are adequately spaced.
- No unsupported technologies, and no forced app-download interstitials.
- Page loads within an acceptable time on a mobile connection.
How it is applied
Pages meeting the standard are preferred in mobile results, which are the majority of results.

The app-download interstitial is the one clients resist removing, because a growth team asked for it. The trade is explicit: the interstitial costs mobile search visibility, and that cost is usually larger than the installs it produces.
