Advice for webmasters

Presenting information on a site

Yandex ranks not only on relevance and completeness but on how the information is structured and presented. It analyses usability directly: a page whose content is accessible and coherent, rather than fragmented into small blocks scattered among advertising text, ranks higher.

The deep-web boundary

Stated plainly and worth repeating to anyone planning a gated site: the robot performs no actions. It cannot register, send an SMS, enter a code or submit a query. Anything reachable only after such a step does not exist as far as search is concerned. Content behind a form is not indexed content.

Placement guidance

  • The purpose of the document should be clear on the first browser screen.
  • Decorative elements that block the view of text — scrolling windows, hidden dropdowns — are discouraged.
  • Long texts should be split by major logical parts, chapters rather than paragraphs. This is an explicit warning against pagination that fragments an article into ten screens for advertising impressions.
  • Text should be logical and neatly presented.

The page elements Yandex names

  • title — it tells the engine what the page is about, appears in the browser window, and forms the link in search results. Yandex calls it the site’s business card.
  • Heading tags h1h6 — used according to the document hierarchy, they help users navigate and help the robot recognise structure. Headings chosen for visual size rather than level are a genuine loss of information.
  • Valid layout conforming to standards.
  • Cross-browser compatibility — a visitor whose browser renders the site badly will leave, and the behavioural consequence follows.
  • The noindex element for excluding part of a page’s text from indexing, with the reminder to include the closing tag.

The one-line rule underneath all of it

“Do not place text that users will never see on the page.” Everything about hidden text, aggressive advertising and fragmented content reduces to that sentence, and it is the same test the SEO-text violation applies.

Как мы это применяем

The deep-web rule settles a recurring client question about gated content: if it sits behind a form, it does not rank, and no markup changes that. The pagination guidance is the other one we cite often — splitting an article across ten pages for ad impressions is named here as poor presentation, and in an engine that weighs behaviour heavily it costs twice.
