TikTok ads reporting is useful when each view answers one decision: whether spend is returning money, which ad groups to scale or cut, and which creatives are wearing out. TikTok Ads Manager offers many metrics, from video watch time to conversions by attribution window. A good reporting setup uses saved custom columns for each purpose, a consistent attribution setting, creative-level reports focused on watch behaviour, and a check against your own store or CRM data.

What decisions should TikTok reports support?

Start by listing the decisions people actually make. A founder decides whether to keep or raise the TikTok budget. A media buyer decides which campaigns and ad groups to change. A creative team decides which concepts to develop and which to retire. Each needs different numbers.

TikTok Ads Reporting: Dashboards That Answer the Right Question — overview

A single dashboard with fifty columns serves none of them well. Build separate views, each short enough to read on one screen, and lead each with the metric that drives its decision.

  • Business view: spend, conversions, cost per conversion, revenue and return
  • Buyer view: campaign and ad group results, CPM, click-through rate, frequency, learning status
  • Creative view: ad-level results, two-second and six-second view rates, average watch time, completion rate
Which settings in Ads Manager should be fixed first?

In TikTok Ads Manager, open the Campaign tab and use Custom columns to create and save presets for each view. Name them clearly so everyone uses the same version. This prevents people from comparing numbers built with different columns.

Choose an attribution setting and keep it stable. TikTok offers click-through and view-through attribution windows, set at the pixel or event level and shown in reporting. Note which windows apply in the report header. Changing them between periods makes month-to-month comparisons meaningless.

Tracking checks behind the reports

  • TikTok Pixel installed with standard events: ViewContent, AddToCart, CompletePayment
  • Events API connected for server-side events
  • Event deduplication configured with event IDs
  • Value and currency sent with purchase events
How do you read creative performance on TikTok?

TikTok is a creative-driven platform. Targeting has become broad and automated, and the ad itself determines most of the result. Creative reports therefore matter more here than on many other platforms.

The key metrics are about attention. The two-second view rate shows how many people stopped scrolling. The six-second view rate shows whether the hook held them. Average watch time and completion rate show whether the content kept their interest. Click-through rate and cost per conversion show whether attention turned into action.

Use TikTok’s Creative reports or ad-level data to compare concepts. An ad with a strong two-second rate but poor six-second rate has a good opening and a weak follow-through. An ad with high watch time but low click-through may entertain without selling.

Spotting creative fatigue

Fatigue appears when click-through rate falls and cost per conversion rises over several days, often while frequency increases. TikTok audiences move quickly, and ads can tire faster than on other platforms. Track these metrics weekly for top ads and plan replacements before performance drops sharply.

Which breakdowns give useful insights?

Ads Manager lets you break down results by age, gender, placement, device, operating system and location, depending on the campaign. These breakdowns can show where results come from, for example that most conversions arrive from a specific age range or from Android users.

Use breakdowns carefully. With automated targeting, the system shifts delivery towards segments it predicts will convert, so a segment with few conversions may simply have received little budget. Treat breakdowns as starting points for tests rather than proof.

Why do TikTok numbers differ from Google Analytics?

TikTok counts conversions within its attribution windows, including view-through conversions where someone saw an ad and later bought without clicking. Google Analytics 4 uses its own attribution model, mainly based on sessions and clicks, and cannot see view-through journeys. The two systems will rarely agree.

Choose a source of record for revenue, usually your store backend or CRM. Report TikTok’s numbers next to it and calculate a ratio between TikTok-reported revenue and actual revenue attributed through your own method. Watch that ratio over time; a sudden change suggests a tracking issue.

  • Store or CRM revenue as the source of record
  • Blended cost per new customer: total paid spend divided by new customers
  • UTMs on TikTok ads for GA4 attribution
  • Post-purchase survey asking how customers found you
Should reports live outside Ads Manager?

For a single account, saved custom columns and scheduled reports from Ads Manager’s Reporting section may be enough. You can schedule reports to arrive by email daily, weekly or monthly.

For brands running several channels, an external dashboard helps. Looker Studio, Power BI and Tableau can pull TikTok data through connectors from Supermetrics, Funnel, Windsor.ai and similar tools. Place TikTok next to Meta, Google and store revenue so that budget decisions are made with all channels in view.

An example reporting rhythm

A beauty brand spending around 10,000 USD a month on TikTok might review creative metrics every Monday and Thursday, ad group performance every Monday, and business results in a monthly summary that compares TikTok with other channels. The cadence matters more than the specific tool.

What warning signs should a dashboard flag?

A useful dashboard highlights problems automatically. Set conditional formatting or alerts when metrics cross thresholds you have defined for your own account.

Flag ad groups stuck in learning for long periods, sudden CPM increases, falling two-second view rates on top creatives and growing gaps between TikTok-reported conversions and your own data. Add a notes field for events like promotions, product launches or tracking changes so that future readers understand unusual periods.

How should you report on Spark Ads and creators?

Spark Ads let you promote organic posts from your own account or from creators who grant authorisation codes. They often feel more native than standard ads, and they bring engagement back to the original post. Report them as a separate group so that you can compare creator content with in-house content on cost per conversion, watch time and click-through rate.

Track the creator, the concept and the authorisation period for each Spark Ad. When a code expires, the ad stops, and reports without that note can show a sudden drop that looks like a performance problem.
