Choosing the domain and hosting

Two decisions made before a site exists, both of which are expensive to revisit.

The domain

Short, memorable, easy to spell — so users can remember it and recommend it. Then the technical half, which is where sites go wrong: tell the robot which form is primary, www.example.com veya example.com, using a 301 redirect. Yandex sets three conditions:

• The content of both forms must be completely the same.
• Both must be available to the robot — verify with the server response check.
• Pages on the alternate address must redirect to the corresponding pages on the primary one, not to its home page.

Left unresolved, the two forms are separate sites competing with each other until the robot works out the duplication for itself.

The hosting

Yandex names two criteria and no others: access speed and mean time between failures. Choose the provider with the fastest access and the least downtime.

Both feed things measured elsewhere in the console. Response times above three seconds are logged as an error and slow indexing; a site unreachable when the robot calls has pages dropped from search and, if the outage covers a mirror, can even trigger ungrouping. Cheap hosting is not a neutral saving — it is a recurring cost paid in crawl efficiency and availability.

What to check before committing

• Server response time from the region the audience is in, not from your own office.
• Whether the provider’s bot filtering blocks Yandex robots by default — a surprisingly common cause of failed verification and unexplained crawl gaps.
• Whether both address forms are answerable and controllable.
