Baidu and Google: what actually differs

Ask AI about this page

The differences that actually change what you do, rather than the ones that make interesting slides.

Where the work diverges

  • Infrastructure: mainland hosting and an ICP licence are ranking-relevant in Baidu and irrelevant in Google.
  • Indexing speed: Baidu is slower to index and slower to drop; patience is required in both directions.
  • Enforcement: named algorithms with published rules, versus Google’s unnamed core updates.
  • Owned properties: Baidu ranks its own platforms prominently, so a Baijiahao presence can be worth more than a page on your own site.
  • Language: machine-translated Chinese is detectable and penalised in effect.

Where it converges

Technical crawlability, page speed, structure, and content that answers the question. Do not rebuild those; re-apply them.

So setzen wir das um

When clients ask for a China strategy, our first recommendation is usually not about the website: it is about hosting, licensing and whether a Baijiahao account should carry part of the content. That advice costs us website work and it is the right advice.
