Snapchat ads mistakes rarely announce themselves. Campaigns deliver, impressions rise, the dashboard looks active, and yet sales or leads do not follow. Snapchat reaches a young, mobile-first audience that decides in seconds whether to keep watching, so small setup errors compound quickly. These are the mistakes we find most often when we review Snapchat accounts, and how to fix each one.
Mistake 1: launching without proper tracking
Running conversion campaigns without the Snap Pixel, or with the pixel installed but no purchase or lead events, leaves the platform optimising for the wrong thing. Install the pixel, define standard events with values and add the Conversions API so that events are not lost to browser restrictions. Then verify with a real test conversion.

Mistake 2: recycling creative from other platforms
A horizontal video or a square image with a letterbox looks out of place in a full-screen vertical feed, and viewers swipe past it. Build creative natively in 9:16, fill the screen, design for sound on while keeping captions for viewers without it, and make it feel like something a person would share rather than a television spot.
Mistake 3: a slow opening
The first second decides whether the rest is seen. Openings with logos, slow fades or long setups lose most of the audience before the message arrives. Start with the product, the result or a face speaking directly to camera, and bring the brand in early but not as a static title card.
Mistake 4: targeting too narrowly
Stacking several interest categories, tight age brackets and small locations often shrinks the audience so much that delivery becomes expensive and the algorithm cannot learn. Start broader, with the core demographic and one or two relevant interest groups, and let performance data narrow it. Use lookalike audiences from customers once you have enough of them.

Mistake 5: choosing the wrong goal
Optimising for swipes when the business wants purchases produces cheap traffic that does not buy. Choose the optimisation goal that matches the result you will be judged on, and give it enough budget and time to exit the learning period before changing it.
Mistake 6: sending mobile users to a desktop experience
Every Snapchat click comes from a phone. Landing pages that load slowly, open pop-ups immediately or require long forms throw away the attention the ad earned. Test the page on a mid-range phone over mobile data, keep the first screen focused on the offer and pre-fill or shorten forms wherever possible.
Mistake 7: editing too often
Frequent changes to budgets, audiences and creatives reset learning and make results impossible to read. Plan tests in advance, change one variable at a time and review weekly rather than hourly.
Mistake 8: ignoring creative fatigue
The same audience sees the same ads repeatedly, and performance erodes quietly. Watch frequency and cost per result over time, and have replacement creatives ready before the current ones wear out.
Most of these mistakes are inexpensive to fix once they are spotted. If you would like an outside review, our Snapchat ads team can audit your account and set out the fixes in order of impact.
